About ORU

Oral Roberts University, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a charismatic university founded in the fires of evangelism and upon the unchanging precepts of the Bible. Oral Roberts University was founded as a result of the evangelist Oral Roberts' obeying God's mandate to build a university on God's authority and the Holy Spirit. The university is named after its founder, Oral Roberts, who founded the institution in 1963, with the following God given commissions:

"Raise up your students to hear My voice, to go where My light is dim, where My voice is heard small, and My healing power is not known, even to the uttermost bounds of the earth. Their work will exceed yours, and in this I am well pleased."

The mission of Oral Roberts University - in its commitment to the Christian faith is to educate the whole person in spirit, mind, and body, thereby preparing its graduates to be professionally competent servant-leaders who are spiritually alive, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, and socially adept.

The university seeks to synthesize the best practices of liberal arts, professional, and graduate education with a charismatic emphasis to enable students to go into every person's world with God's message of salvation and healing for the totality of human need.

The school has an enrollment of over 5,000 students who come from every state in the U.S. and attracts a significant number of international students. The Avenue of Flags is the main entrance to Oral Roberts University, and is lined with lighted flags representing more than 60 nations from which ORU students have come. Founded to educate the whole person-mind, body and spirit-ORU promises a world-class academic experience in the context of a vibrant Christ-centered community.

Today, ORU envisions a bright future, energized by the financial support of the Green family-who has generously provided more than $60 million to the University-and by the appointment of a new president, Dr. Mark Rutland. The New ORU is pursuing excellence in every category-strengthening academic programs, upgrading technological capabilities, and improving facilities campus-wide.

As a comprehensive university dedicated to strong student outcomes, ORU offers 65 undergraduate majors, many with national accreditation, as well as 14 master's-level programs, and two doctoral degrees. Faculty members educated at the nation's top graduate schools serve as academic, professional, and spiritual mentors to students who come to ORU from every corner of the globe.

ORU continues to redefine what it means to be a leading Christian university. We invite you to feel the energy of the New ORU and become a part of this university on the go.
