I AM

When you look in the mirror, you see an image of you. It is not the real you, it is just an image.

We all have an image of ourselves in our minds that goes deeper than just how we look, it’s who we are. It is an opinion of us that comes from a lot of different things:

•   Experiences that we’ve had

•   What others say about us

Our image of ourselves is not always the truth. Satan wants to paint a false picture of who you are and get you to believe it. He has a plan for your life just like God has a plan for your life. He wants to kill, steal, and destroy. John 10:10

The knowledge we need is the Truth.

-A lot of people have opinions about you

-You have opinions about yourself

-The only opinion that matters is God’s.

God’s opinion is what’s true. Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”  -John 14:6 When God looks at you He sees a glorious, radiant bride, without spot or blemish: forgiven. He looks at you and says, “You are everything I hoped you would be,” because he sees you through the blood of JesusRomans 5:8 “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this:While we were still sinners Christ died.”

What you focus on is what you will become. If you focus on your failures and your fears, then that will be your destiny. If you focus on God’s truth then you will fulfill his purposes and you will be able to get out of your sin.

1) Focus on the truth and you’ll recognize the lie

Focus:  Concentrate one’s attention

We need to be focusing or concentrating our attention on the Truth. The Word of God is the truth. If we focus our attention on the truth of what God says about us then we will be able to recognize the lies that we have believed.

Lies We Believe

Lie #1 “I’m not good enough”

God says:  Genesis 1:13 “God saw all what He had made and it was very good.”

The truth is: He made you.  You are good.  You are very good!

God says: II Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

The truth is: you are righteous. Righteous: right with God, good, excellent, authentic.

God says: Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and remembers your sins no more.

The truth is: You’re forgiven – that’s good enough!

You are good enough. That is the truth.

Lie #2 “I’m rejected.”

God says: Isaiah 41:9 “I have chosen you and not rejected you.”

God says: Ephesians 1:4 “He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love, he predestined us to be adopted as his sons (and daughters) through Jesus Christ.”

God says: Psalms 27:10 “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.”

The truth is: You are accepted by God and that’s all that matters.

Lie #3 “I do everything wrong”

God says: Colossians 1:22 “but now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body, by death to present you as holy in his sight without blemish and free from accusation.”

God says: Revelations 12:10 “for the accuser of our brothers who accuses them before our God day and night has been hurled down.”

The truth is: You are free from accusations!

God says: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ.”

The truth is: You can do all things!

Lie #4 “I’m Ugly”

God says: Genesis 1:26 “You are made in God’s image.”

 God’s not ugly!

God says: Psalms 139 “You are fearfully and wonderfully made, you are knitted together in your mother’s womb.”

The truth is: You are beautiful, God created you, and you are wonderful.

Lie #5 “I am stupid”

God says: 1 Corinthians 2:16 “You have the mind of Christ.”

Christ isn’t stupid. The Holy Spirit knows everything about everything. Whatever you need to know you can just ask the Holy Spirit.  He is your teacher.

2) Speak the Truth

Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death.”

James 3:4, 6 “Take ships as an example, although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go…The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by Hell.”

Our life is like a ship and our tongue is like the rudder. If you want to turn your life around, you have got to set the rudder on course. Instead of saying, “I can’t,” change your destiny; set your course, and start saying, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

You can either set your life on fire for corruption with your words, or you can set your life for blessing, according to Proverbs 21 which says your tongue has the power of life and death.

3)    Plant the Word

If you plant the Word in your life then it will grow in and you won’t have to deal with so much sin, it will take over and you will begin to be transformed.

How do you do that?

•     Meditate on it

•     Memorize it

•     Speak it

For every sin and every habit that we face, there is a lie behind it that we believe.  If we will focus, study, and meditate on the truth, God will change us and we will be transformed.
